In preparation for the Reactivating Vacant Schools design charrette, the Collaborative visited four vacant public schools in Philadelphia, conducting visual assessments of building exteriors and interiors, school sites, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The resulting written reports, photos, plans, and recommendations will provide a practical starting point for determining the reuse potential of each school site.
It's rewarding to help make a difference by working on community-based projects in their too-early-for-funding stages.
"The Collaborative is very organized and has equally motivated members. It makes all the difference for projects."
"Developing long term relationships with other volunteers, Collaborative board members, and Collaborative staff has been the most rewarding aspect of my involvement with the organization."
