Housing/Community Development

Kensington Renewal Initiative

A fire in an abandoned horse blanket factory left this North Kensington neighborhood with a half-acre vacant lot. A neighborhood organization, along with community members, is maintaining the lot, cleaned and greened by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. The community asked the Collaborative to explore several options for the reuse of the site: a community park, open space plus housing, and open space plus a community health center.

"Design isn’t something we impose upon a community. It’s more about uncovering the identity and potential of a place."
