Let www.pnrt.org take you to Kensington, the Caribe Development Zone, Yorktown, Society Hill, and more. The Philadelphia Neighborhood Recovery Tour website offers a virtual tour of ten successful real estate ventures in city neighborhoods (when completed, the tour will include a total of 27 "stops"). Each tour stop demonstrates how urban communities can benefit from strong collaboration between local government agencies and community-based organizations. The Community Design Collaborative is now hosting the website to highlight these success stories.
The concept and initial design for www.pnrt.org was created by the Foundation for Architecture in collaboration with John Kromer (former Philadelphia Director of Housing and author of Neighborhood Recovery: Reinvestment Policy for the New Hometown). In 2003, the Community Design Collaborative agreed to host the project and to work with Mr. Kromer in planning for the completion of the entire tour.
The primary goals of www.pnrt.org are to:
- Inform the public about successful public-private efforts to improve urban neighborhoods
- Promote the principles of good urban design as an element of neighborhood reinvestment
- Encourage citizens to support and participate in partnerships between municipal governments and community-based organizations
- Advocate for better urban planning and the effective use of public funding
The Philadelphia Neighborhood Recovery Tour gives viewers an insider's look at the neighborhoods, people, and partnerships behind successful neighborhood reinvestment. Photos and narratives at each tour stop demonstrate the personal impact of the projects. Sections on the details of the ventures offer valuable information to those launching new urban real estate ventures.
