The Collaborative Young Entrepreneur Services (YES) is the creation of The Franklin Concept Group. YES was founded to make an economic impact on the community by creating jobs and introducing young people to careers in the food industry. The nonprofit's first business venture will be "Yes Delivers Dinner", a proposal that mixes high tech with neighborhood-based economic development.
YES Delivers Dinner will offer a menu of affordable, home-delivered meals for time pressed families. Meals would be produced at a community-based kitchen using new technologies that preserve the flavor and appeal of the freshly-prepared dinners. To do that, YES Delivers Dinner requires a facility that can cook 2,500 meals a day. But the project requires more than an efficient kitchen. "YES Delivers Dinner will expose young people to state-of-the-art technology, entrepreneurship skills, and careers in the food industry", says Bill Washington, President of The Franklin Concept Group.
The design services provided by the Community Design Collaborative included programming, an analysis of space needs, conceptual design alternatives, plans and elevations, site planning, renderings, and an opinion of probable cost. Responding to The Franklin Concept Group's goals, the volunteer team researched modular structures and looked to similar facilities for precedents.
The resulting prototype is a sleek metal structure that provides a playful backdrop for the "Yes Delivers Dinner" logo. The design concept incorporates modular units, trucked to the site and ganged together to form the building.
An ornamental skin of polished stainless steel and aluminum would shelter the modules from the elements and provide a progressive image for the facility. Ductwork and mechanical equipment would be placed in the interstices between the building's skin and the modules.
The Franklin Concept Group will use the plans and renderings created by the Community Design Collaborative to raise funding and support for a flagship "YES Delivers Dinner" facility in West Philadelphia.
