Beginning this fall, the Community Design Collaborative will be offering preliminary design services to Philadelphia congregations through New Partners/New Dollars, a pilot program created by Partners for Sacred Places. Over twenty congregations in West and Northwest Philadelphia are participating in New Dollars/New Partners.
Partners for Sacred Places will train congregations in community-wide fundraising, capital campaigns for religious properties, and asset-based community development. Headquartered in Philadelphia, Partners for Sacred Places is the only national, secular non-profit organization in America that is devoted to helping congregations and their communities care for historic sacred places. And, since the ability to identify and communicate capital improvement priorities is part of a successful capital campaign, Partners is offering matching seed grants to help congregations secure in-depth building conditions surveys and cost estimates.
Partners for Sacred Places will also be referring New Partners/New Dollars congregations to the Community Design Collaborative for pro bono programming, space planning, and conceptual design services. The role of the Collaborative is to help these congregations translate their proposals for community-serving programs into concrete capital improvements. "We're looking forward to these projects. Our New Partners/New Dollars clients will be well-prepared and ready for preliminary design services", observes Elizabeth Miller, the Collaborative's Executive Director.
The Community Design Collaborative is seeking preservationists, registered architects, intern architects, interior designers, preservationists, and cost estimators work with New Partners/New Dollars congregations. To get involved in a New Dollars/New Partners project, email .
